Straw man

See if you can spot where the presented argument gets ignored and an exaggerated version is created for the purpose of being easier to refute, thus invalidating the original argument but also not doing that at all:

Jane: I know you hate it, but I think I'll look better wearing the other necklace to dinner.
Pubert Cavendish: Oh, so you're just going to wear all your WHORE clothes tonight?!? Make me look like I'm dating a WHORE and embarrass me in front of the division manager?!?! You WHORE.

When you create a different argument that kind of looks similar but kind of didn't exist until you made it yourself, you also create the illusion that you're winning - but that's just another thing that only happens in your head. Even though it doesn't take much to build up your own idealized image of the opposition, guess what? They're still standing even after you blowtorch the straw man.
